Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education is a government ministry office of the Syrian Arab Republic, responsible for education in Syria.
Although the ministry is only responsible for the basic, secondary, and vocational levels of education (while the Ministry of Higher Education is responsible for post secondary levels), it is operating 92 of 195 Technical Institutes (colleges) in addition to the VET schools on the secondary education level.
Statistical figures for the year 2007 reported that MOE operates 657 vocational schools nationwide accommodating 114,876 students, and 149 Industrial schools accommodating 50,825 students. The total number of graduates from VET schools in 2007 was 26,339 students.
MoE also started an apprenticeship system (pilot basis) in 2000 where it is building capacity for partnership with the business sector in VET.
