Background
The existing vocational training systems in the Mashreq countries currently do not offer school-leavers and other people seeking apprenticeship or vocational training positions sufficient modern training opportunities. Also, the available opportunities do not take into account the current needs of industry and labour market. For most of the school-leavers, vocational training is supply-oriented; it is rare for the social partners to be involved in designing the training, something that is essential for matching the demand for skills with the supply of skills by means of cooperative vocational training.
For the countries of the region, cooperation among them is essential for the development of the labor force potential; it is essential as well for the establishment of a knowledge-based society in general and for the benefit of the vocational training and education sector in particular.
Objective
The project aims at supporting institutional reforms in the TVET sector and improving the quality of vocational training and education. In the long run, economic and employment growth and in particular the improvement of employability and job opportunities for young people in the countries of the Mashreq region and neighboring countries will be impacted.
